Continuing our crusade against Sugar, scientists at UC Davis and the U.S. Agriculture Department found that even small amounts of High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) for just two weeks raises both LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The result was an overall increased risk of cardiovascular disease for even moderate consumption of HFCS. Yet in 2009, the average American ate more than 35 pounds of HFCS. This man made concentrated form of Sugar leads to unhealthy weight gain by inhibiting secretion of the ‘stop eating’ hormone known as ‘Leptin’. It also increases secretion of the ‘continue eating’ hormone known as ‘Ghrelin’. I constantly advise my clients to read ingredient labels on every food; then just stop buying foods with added sugar, corn syrup, corn syrup solids, or high fructose corn syrup. Instead, choose foods without ingredient labels, which are found in the produce department.
